LCBB4000- Academic Skills

Task:

Upon the successful completion of this module, the student should be able to demonstrate the ability to:

1. Analyse the published literature relating to a management related topic and produce a fully referenced management report

2. Design and deploy a range of primary data collection methods.

3. Evaluate and interpret qualitative and quantitative data and present the findings to specialist and non-specialist audiences

4. Evaluate the appropriateness of different approaches to information gathering.

To demonstrate an ability to present, evaluate and interpret qualitative and quantitative data, students will collate and analyse the data and present their findings in a range of formats e.g. using software for word processing, spreadsheets, surveys, statistical analysis and presentations. They will communicate the results of their study accurately and reliably, and with structured and coherent arguments. Students will evaluate the theory and application of the data collection methods used in the context of their own research study.

a) For this assessment, you can extend the secondary research you conducted for assignment one. Or collect a new data on a new topic . As a team (except in exceptional circumstances), you must investigate your allocated topic using primary research methods (interview and questionnaire).

b) To ensure relevant data is gathered, you will need to select an appropriate sample of participants. Typically each  person in a group will have to interview at least one participant and collect the questionnaire from at least 3 participants.

c) You will have approximately 10 minutes per student to present the findings of your research to a tutorial group of your peers. All students must participate.

Your findings/presentation should demonstrate effective use of software e.g. word processing, spreadsheets, surveys, statistical analysis and presentations; an individual a hard copy of all the work involved in the research project, must be submitted by all members of the team with a collaborative copy of the presentation

d) You will participate in a peer review process in which your team will observe and ask questions of the other groups’ presentations.
