TOUR373 Convention Management and Service

You are required to volunteer at least once this term in an event of your choice, the event can be a conference, a festival, a tradeshow or otherwise (all must be pre-approved by your instructor). Some various volunteer opportunities will be announced to you throughout the term, based on availability

Once you find a good and fitting opportunity, prepare a professional email addressed to the volunteer coordinator. Present yourself as a student at Cap who is eager to learn and engage with local communities and the event industry. Explain what you can bring to the table and why you are interested

  • Answer the following questions
  1. What was the event? provide full name, date, time, location, etc.
  2. Was this event open to the public? How much did it cost for participants? Local, international? Were they all part of a members group/association/company/etc., dress code, etc.
  3. Why were you interested in this particular event? Also, how did it help you grow, professionally or personally?
  4. From a staffer’s perspective (volunteer coordinator) How was staffing for the event organized? Anything can be done better? Communication, clarity of instructions, etc.
  5. Were there any sponsors for the event? If yes, who were they? How do you think they would benefit from their decision to sponsor? If no sponsors, why do you think that was so, would you recommend bringing in sponsors? Such as who?
  6. What third parties do you think were involved in the event and how?
